Frequently Asked Questions: Stone Coated Roofing Sheets & Metal Tiles

Everything you need to know about stone coated roofing sheets, Decra-style metal tiles, stone coated shingles, and JS Roofing's products and services.

What are stone coated roofing sheets?

Stone coated roofing sheets are a high-performance metal roofing product that combines a galvalume (aluminium-zinc alloy) steel core with a layer of natural stone granules permanently bonded using UV-resistant acrylic resin. They offer the look of traditional clay tiles or architectural shingles, but with far greater durability, lower weight, and virtually no maintenance. They are also called stone coated metal tiles, Decra roofing sheets, or stone coated shingles, depending on the market.

What is the difference between stone coated roofing sheets and Decra tiles?

Decra is an internationally recognised brand of stone coated metal roofing tiles from New Zealand. In India and many other markets, the term "Decra tile" or "Decra roofing sheet" is often used generically to describe any stone coated metal roofing sheet of similar construction. JS Roofing supplies Decra-equivalent stone coated roofing sheets, same technology, same multi-layer construction, same 35+ year performance, at competitive India-market pricing.

What profiles / types of stone coated roofing sheets do you supply?

JS Roofing currently supplies two flagship profiles: (1) the Bond Profile, a classic curved/scalloped tile shape resembling traditional clay pantiles; and (2) the Shingle Profile, a flat, multi-tone architectural shingle pattern. Both are available in up to 16 stone granule colours. We also supply the matching Angle Hip ridge cap accessory for complete roof finishing.

How many colours are available? Can I get a physical sample?

We offer 16 standard stone granule colour options, including Black, Charcoal Grey, Slate Grey, Emerald Green, Dark Green, Sapphire, Moon Blue, Agate Red, Rose Madder, Brick Red, Clay Brown, Coffee, Brown, Tiger, Melon Yellow, and Grey White. Yes, physical colour samples are available on request. Contact us on +91 9537619951 or via WhatsApp.

What is the lifespan of stone coated roofing sheets?

Our stone coated roofing sheets are designed for a lifespan of 35+ years under normal Indian climate conditions. The Galvalume AZ-150 core resists corrosion, the acrylic resin locks the stone granules in place for decades, and the UV-stable coating prevents colour fading. We back our products with a 10-year product warranty.

What material are the tiles made of?

The core is high-grade Galvalume AZ-150 alloy steel (55% aluminium, 43.5% zinc, 1.5% silicon). This base provides exceptional corrosion resistance. Over this, an anti-rust epoxy primer is applied, followed by a layer of natural stone granules bonded in UV-resistant acrylic polymer, sealed with a clear acrylic overglaze for long-term protection.

Will the stone coating fall off over time?

No. The natural stone chips are deeply embedded in a UV-resistant acrylic polymer base and sealed with a clear acrylic overglaze to ensure they remain securely attached for 35+ years. The bonding process is designed to withstand the full range of Indian weather, from intense heat and UV in the plains to freeze-thaw cycles in mountain regions.

Will the roof be noisy during heavy rain?

No. Unlike bare corrugated metal sheets, the textured stone granule coating on our roofing sheets effectively absorbs and dampens the noise of heavy rain and hail. Many customers specifically cite quieter interiors as a key benefit compared to their previous metal or tin roofs.

Does the stone coated roof keep the house cooler?

Yes, significantly. The Galvalume AZ-150 base reflects solar radiation (it has a high solar reflectance index), and the stone granule layer provides an additional layer of thermal insulation on top. Many homeowners report noticeably lower interior temperatures in summer, which can reduce air conditioning costs considerably.

How do stone coated roofing sheets compare to clay tiles?

Stone coated metal sheets are lighter (2.7 kg per sheet vs 40–60 kg per m² for clay), last longer (35+ years vs 20–25 years for most clay), are completely waterproof from day one, resist cracking and breakage, and require zero maintenance. Clay tiles are heavier (requiring stronger roof structures), can crack under impact or freeze-thaw cycling, and often need repointing or replacement over time. Stone coated sheets are widely considered a superior alternative.

Is installation easy? Can my existing contractor do it?

Yes. Stone coated roofing sheets install with standard tools using a horizontal batten-and-screw method. Any experienced roofing contractor can install them, we provide detailed installation guidelines with every order. Sheets are interlocked and screwed from the bottom eave upward. JS Roofing also offers technical support during installation on request.

Do you supply pan-India? What are your delivery options?

Yes, JS Roofing supplies stone coated roofing sheets across all Indian states. We dispatch from our Agra, Uttar Pradesh facility. Delivery is arranged via trusted logistics partners for both retail and bulk orders. Contact us with your location and quantity for a delivery quote and timeline.

Will the colour fade in sunlight?

No. The natural stone granules are inherently UV-resistant and colourfast, being natural stone, they do not "fade" the same way paint does. The clear acrylic overglaze provides additional UV protection. Colour stability is one of the core advantages of stone coated roofing over painted metal sheets.

Is it fire-resistant?

Yes. Our stone coated metal roofing carries a Class A fire resistance rating, the highest possible classification. The combination of non-combustible steel and stone granules means the roof will not contribute to the spread of fire, an important safety advantage over asphalt shingles or thatch roofing.

Is it resistant to strong winds and storms?

Yes. The unique interlocking design and mechanical fastening system allow our roofing sheets to withstand cyclonic winds up to 130 km/h. They are tested to international wind uplift resistance standards and are widely used in high-wind areas including coastal regions and hill stations across India.
